A three-bedroom and three-bathroom home once owned by Impressionist painter Claude Monet in Northern France has been listed on home-sharing website Airbnb for $226 per night.

The 19th-century Blue House is located in the small village of Giverny in the Normandy region in France, 50 miles northwest of Paris. The house has undergone a complete renovation in 2016, including the introduction of modern furniture.

Guests can enjoy Monet’s studio (now filled with reproductions of his paintings); his bedroom; his wife Alice’s separate bedroom; and other amenities including a 16,000 square feet of gardens that recall some of the artist’s famous paintings.

Monet lived in the Blue House from 1883 until his death in 1926. After his death, the house passed to his son Michel, who chose to live elsewhere. In time, Michel sold all the paintings in the house and allowed it to fall into neglect. In 1966, the son died in an accident and left the Blue House to the French Academie des Beaux-Arts. A Claude Monet Foundation was established to maintain and manage the property.

The Blue House is located close to the Museum of Impressionisms in Giverny, which has long been a pilgrimage sight for for impressionism enthusiasts. The Aibnb listing includes a painting of the house by Californian impressionist Guy Rose who was Monet’s neighbor.  The listing also includes the special request: “The Blue House is an historic house, and it’s furnished with high quality furniture and art pieces, so it has to be respected.”
