황선혜 개인전 <Oneiric Sketches: 1971-2019>이 2019년 11월 1일 ~11월 30일까지 옥수서재에서 개최된다.

어린 시절 감각적으로 느꼈던　과거에 대한 기억은 상상력과 결합되어 또다른 기억으로 확장되고 변이되며 재창조된다. 시간이 지나고 나이가 들면서 지난 과거의 기억들은 현재시간과 함께 새로운 뿌리를 뻗으면서 무궁무진하게 자라난다.

Oneiric Sketches: 1971-201９는 작가의 부모님의 결혼식으로부터 시작해서 현재까지의 시간을 담고 있다. 자신과 가족의 역사와 기억들의 시청각적인 몽타쥬인 이 작품은 이런 기억의 파편들의 가늠할 수 없는 깊이와 한없이 확장됨의 뫼비우스띠를 찰나의 스케치로 포착하려는 의도를 담고 있다.

Oksu Books is pleased to present Oneiric Sketches: 1971-2019, a solo exhibition by Korean-Canadian artist Sunhye Hwang. The exhibition will be held from Nov 1st to 30th, 2019.

I am fascinated by how reality as experienced and perceived by the human senses becomes processed and reinvented into different narratives of memory and imagination. This reality extends beyond one’s physical lived experiences, to narratives as told by family, about time immemorial. Their narratives and histories are also what connects my story with a bigger narrative, and gives me a sense of belonging in my isolation.

Oneiric Sketches: 1971-2019 is a visual and aural montage of family and personal history and memories. Memories, powered by imagination, are unfathomable in depth. This work is an attempt to capture reflections of a family history of close to 50 years, in a fleeting moment.
