‘Jungjin Lee: Echo’ is an exhibition that re-explores LEE’s analogue print series, which she has been working on for over twenty years. In her work, LEE Jung-jin taps her profound understanding for materiality, texture, and craftsmanship. Working with Liquid Light, she applies photosensitive emulsion onto rice paper with a coarse brush. The resulting imprecisions in the development process and imperfections in production run counter to photography’s supposed claim to truth. The artist developed a highly idiosyncratic visual syntax in series such as <American Desert>(1990-95), <On Road>(2000-01), <Thing>(2003-07), and <Wind>(2004-07), in which her fundamental interest in nature and culture is expressed in a space of poetic resonance. This will be a rare opportunity to view numerous original print works by an artist who is better known internationally than at home, with pieces in the collections of such prominent institutions as the Museum of Modern Art, Whitney Museum, and Metropolitan Museum of Art.
