The National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea, presents ‘respectively, Peter WEIBEL. Art as an Act of Cognition’, an exchange exhibition jointly curated with the ZKM | Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe in Germany from Friday, 3 February, to Sunday, 14 May, at MMCA Seoul. This large-scale retrospective highlights the works of media and concept artist Peter WEIBEL. As an artist, curator, and theorist since the 1960s, WEIBEL has greatly influenced the development of media art. The exhibition presents about 70 of his leading works and examines his course of work through 10 themes: artistic action, performance, photography, language analysis, writing, poetry, video, expanded cinema, and computer-based installation. The exhibition unfolds around the Multi-project Hall of MMCA Seoul. The entryway to the hall features many of WEIBEL’s photo and video works from the early 1960s, and the highlight of this exhibition, <Chants of the Pluriverse>(1986–88), is presented inside. Up the stairs in the hallway are his post-production and interactive works.
