인간은 유한한 삶을 극복하는 불멸과 영생에 대한 갈망으로 초월적 존재자를 상상해 왔다. 이러한 상상은 21세기 들어 현실이 되었다. 근미래에는 한 사람의 뇌 속에 평생 축적한 기억이나 경험이 AI를 통해 클라우드에 백업되어 저장되고 후세의 인간들의 삶 안에 머물며 물리적으로 존속하게 된다. 본 전시는 역사, 신화, 종교, 사랑 등 불멸의 가치들이 동시대성 안에서 어떠한 의미로 해석되고 새롭게 구성되는지 강이연, 권하윤, 서용선, 이우성, 조은지, 파비앙 베르쉐르 6명의 시각예술가들의 작업을 통해 탐구하고자 한다.
인류의 역사는 각 시대를 대표하는 매체가 만들어 낸 서로 다른 코드에 의해 인간의 의식과 지각을 변화시키며 진보해왔다. 최초의 매체기술인 ‘문자-인쇄술’은 근대적 자아의 핵심적 미디어로 근대성의 표본을 이루었다. 그러나 오늘날 기술적 환경은 선형적, 원근법적으로 구성된 균질적인 세계가 모자이크 조각으로 해체된 탈역사의 시대를 이끌었다. 본 전시는 근대라는 역사 안에서 은폐되거나 망각된 주체들의 이야기를 재등장시키며 작가와 관객 모두가 각자의 시선으로 자신들의 역사를 “되쓰기(Rewriting)” 할 것을 요청한다.
Across the ages and the whole wide world, transcendental beings were often imagined by human aspiration for immortality and eternity. Such an imagination for immortality has been realized in the 21st century. Human existence now remains undying as it will live as a form of data after death. In the near future, one’s memories
and experiences for a lifetime accumulated in the brain continue to stay in future generations and physically exist as they are stored in the cloud by artificial intelligence. This exhibition aims to demonstrate how the immortal values such as history, mythology, religion, and love are interpreted and newly organized in contemporaneity
by viewing works of 6 visual artists - KANG Yiyun, KWON Hayoun, SUH Yong-sun, LEE Woo-sung, CHO Eunji, and Fabien VERSCHAERE.
Human history has progressed by changing the consciousness and perception of man by the different codes generated by the dominant medium of each age. The first media technology, ‘lettertypography’, was the core media of the modern self and formed a model of modernity. Today, however, the technological environment
has led to a post-history era in which a homogeneous world composed of linear and perspectival aspects has been dismantled into mosaic fragments. This exhibition suggests to both the artists and the audience “rewrite” their personal histories through their own perspectives as redisplaying the stories of those that had been suppressed or forgotten in the history of modern times.
