청주관은 지속적으로 미술품수장센터의 특성을 바탕으로 한 전시를 개최해왔다. 올해는 특히 청주관 개관 5주년, 서울관 개관 10주년이 되는 해이다. 그간 국립현대미술관은 연간 약 20건의 전시를 개최하며 수많은 담론을 생성하고 전시의 역사를 만들어왔다. 기획전 ‘전시의 전시’는 국립현대미술관의 지난 전시 중 ‘기념’을 위해 개최되었던 4개 전시를 다시 전시하며 전시를 통해 무엇인가를 기념한다는 것의 의미를 살펴본다. 또한, 이번 전시는 미술관의 다양한 활동 중 ‘전시’ 자체에 주목하고 이미 종료된 전시를 소장품을 전시하듯 다시 전시함으로써 소장품 수집과는 다른 전시의 수집과 활용의 의미를 생각해본다.

The MMCA Cheongju has consistently held exhibitions that reflect the Art Collection Center’s characteristics. This thematic exhibition focuses on an exhibition itself, among the various activities of the museum. By exhibiting already-ended exhibitions as if exhibiting the art collection, the exhibition prompts visitors to contemplate the meaning of collecting and utilizing exhibitions, which is different from collecting art pieces. This year marks the 5th anniversary of the opening of the MMCA Cheongju and the 10th anniversary of the opening of the MMCA Seoul. Art museums periodically commemorate their opening or national events, as well as various commemorative exhibitions to remember and honor the births and deaths of artists. In this exhibition, four past exhibitions from the MMCA that were held for “commemoration” are exhibited again, prompting the audience to contemplate the meaning of commemorating something through an exhibition.
