JACOB FABRICIUS TO LEAD 2020 BUSAN BIENNALE AS ARTISTIC DIRECTOR
The Busan Biennale’s organizing committee announced that Jacob Fabricius, who has served as the director of Kunsthal Aarhus in Denmark since 2016, will be the chief artistic director of the exhibition’s 2020 edition.
Fabricius is a board member of the Danish Arts Foundation’s committee for visual arts and was previously associate curator at CNEAI in Paris (2015–16); artistic director at the Kunsthal Charlottenborg in Copenhagen (2013–14); artistic director at the Malmö Konsthall in Malmö, Sweden (2008–13); and curator at the Centre d’Art Santa Mònica in Barcelona (2006–2008). Recent exhibitions organized by Fabricius include “Superflex: We Are All In The Same Boat,” Miami Dade College (2018); “Gillian Wearing: A Real Danish Family,” Copenhagen (2017); and the Biennale of Moving Images, Mechelen, Belgium (2013).
Fabricius’s application was selected from an open call, which received fifty entries, for his “boundary-broadening concept actively applying literature and music,” according to the committee. The biennial, which was established in 1981 by young local South Korean artists, is searching for a new location for its tenth edition, slated to open in September of next year.
