CICA미술관에서 미국 몽고메리 대학 협업 “NEWBODIES/NOBODIES” 국제전에 참여하실 한국에 거주하는 작가들 또는 해외 거주 중인 한국 기반 작가들을 공모합니다. 본 전시는 미국 메릴랜드주의 몽고메리 대학 교수진들과 한국 CICA미술관 선정 작가들의 교류전으로 한국 CICA미술관과 미국 킹스트리트 겔러리에서 진행될 예정입니다. 선정된 한국 기반 작가들은 미국 워싱턴 DC에 인접한 몽고메리 대학 킹 스트리트 갤러리에서 열리는 전시에 참여하게 됩니다. 본 행사는 CICA미술관 아트디렉터 김리진 박사와 몽고메리 대학 미술대학 학장 노베르토 고메즈 박사가 공동 기획합니다.
*참가 조건: CICA미술관 전시에 이전에 참여하셨거나 참여 예정인 작가들에 한해 공모 가능합니다.
주제: 네트워크 및 소셜 미디어, 스마트 기기의 대중화와 코로나 시대를 거치며 현대 사회의 물리적 인체는 그 어느때 보다도 더 테크놀로지에 의존하게 되었습니다. 코로나 시대 임종을 지켜볼 수 없던 시기 사람들은 스마트폰을 통해 사랑하는 사람들의 마지막을 함께할 수 있었습니다. 이와 같이 인간과 기술, 또한 인간의 유한함은 서로 복잡한 관계 속에서 영향을 주고 받으며 함께 발전해나가고 있습니다.
“Newbodies/Nobodies” 국제전은 현대의 버추얼, 사이보그, 퀴어등 현대 사회의 새로운 형태의 인체, 인체와 정치, 익명성, 가상공간, 트랜스휴머니즘, 동물체, 코로나 시대의 자연과 인공의 세계 등, 현대 사회에서 대두되는 다양한 주제를 다룬 작품을 공모합니다.
Even prior to the pandemic of 2020, human civilization had become increasingly tethered to the Network, a condition of perpetual digital/remote/virtual connection, carrying smartphones on bodies in a form of latent cyborgism, and immersing in representations and performativity of self via social media networks, among others.
While day to day sociality, business, and politics blur the boundaries between offline and online experience, creating a global, extended telepresence, the media also proliferated video clips, captured by cell phone users, of the murder POC, including Eric Garner, for one, who’s “I can’t breathe” would cause a wave of protest over the right of a physical body, of a person, to exist. His last moments were broadcast throughout the world. Meanwhile, later, during the early wave of the pandemic, nurses held up smart phones so one could say a final goodbye to their sick loved ones who were unable to breathe. Both are instances of the complex interaction and relationship between the body, tech, and mortality.
In the Age of Pandemic and Network, the body is potentially resurrected, reconsidered, and/or reconstructed.
Newbodies/Nobodies features work that attempts to explore and critique a new figuration, a new body (virtual, cyborg, queer), body-politic, or a no-body (nobody), cyberspace, and transhumanism; as well as animal bodies and the natural/unnatural world(s) during this post-long-COVID/Network Condition.

*작가 또는 작가의 조수는 배정된 공간에서 작품을 설치하며 작품을 위한 모든 재료 및 도구를 가져와야 합니다. 미국 킹스트리트 갤러리 작품의 반입,수송, 반출 시 발생하는 비용은 작가가 부담합니다. 선정 작가에게 상세 설치 가이드라인을 제공할 예정입니다.
*선정 작가는 미국 메릴랜드 몽고메리 대학 킹스트리트 갤러리에서 오프닝 파티 및 작가와의 대화에 참여하게 됩니다. 참여 작가는 물리적으로 현장에 참석해주실 것을 적극 권장드립니다.
