점의 본질과 표현의 근원성 The Essence of the Dot and the Origin of Expression

점은 회화에서 가장 작은 단위이자, 동시에 가장 근원적인 형상입니다.

선이나 면보다도 앞서 존재하는 “순수한 시작”으로서, 무의미한 듯 보이지만 무수히 반복될 때 집합적 의미와 형상을

획득합니다. 점을 찍는 행위는 세계를 미시적으로 분해하고, 다시 그것을 집합적으로 재구성하는 과정이 됩니다.

이는 예술가가 세계를 ‘입자’ 단위로 해체하면서 동시에 새로운 ‘질서’를 부여하는 행위라 할 수 있습니다.

The dot is the smallest unit in painting, yet simultaneously the most fundamental form.

As a 'pure beginning' that predates lines and planes, it appears meaningless, but when

repeated countless times, it acquires collective meaning and form. The act of dotting

becomes a process of microscopically decomposing the world and then collectively

reconstructing it.

This can be seen as the artist's act of deconstructing the world into 'particles' while

simultaneously imposing a new 'order.'

신체성과 시간성 Physicality and temporality

붓질로 넓게 칠하는 행위가 제스처적이고 즉각적인 에너지라면, 점 찍기는 반복적이고 집요한 행위입니다.

화가는 매 순간 동일한 몸짓을 축적하며, 화면 위에 “시간의 층위”를 쌓습니다. 이는 단순한 색채의 밀집이 아니라,

노동의 흔적, 호흡의 리듬, 몰입의 과정이 시각적으로 드러나는 것입니다. 따라서 점묘적 표현은 단순히 시각적

이미지가 아니라, 작가의 행위성과 시간이 응축된 흔적이라 할 수 있습니다.

While the act of applying broad brushstrokes is gestural and immediate, dotting is a repetitive

and persistent act.

The artist accumulates the same gestures moment by moment, building 'layers of time'

on the canvas. This is not simply a dense concentration of color,

but a visual manifestation of the traces of labor, the rhythm of breathing, and the process of

immersion. Therefore, pointillism is not simply a visual image, but rather a condensed trace

of the artist's agency and time.

질서와 혼돈의 긴장 The tension between order and chaos

점묘적 화면은 멀리서 보면 하나의 통합된 이미지로 인식되지만, 가까이 다가가면 무수히 흩어진 점들의 혼돈으로

해체됩니다. 이 ‘이중적 경험’은 관람자로 하여금 시각적 거리와 지각의 차원을 끊임없이 전환하도록 만듭니다.

즉, 점의 회화는 혼돈(chaos)과 질서(order) 사이를 가로지르는 미학을 구현합니다.

이는 세계 자체의 구조”미시적 입자와 거시적 형상”를 은유적으로 반영하는 방식이기도 합니다.

From a distance, pointillistic paintings appear as a single, unified image. However, upon

closer inspection, they disintegrate into a chaos of countless scattered dots.

This 'dual experience' forces the viewer to constantly shift between visual distance and

the dimensions of perception.

In other words, pointillist paintings embody an aesthetic that straddles chaos and order.

This also metaphorically reflects the structure of the world itself: 'microscopic particles

and macroscopic shapes.'
