진주시·국립진주박물관은 ‘한국 채색화의 흐름: 참眞 색과 참 빛이 흐르는 고을晉州’ 공동기획전을 개최한다. 각 기관은 시립미술관과 국립박물관으로서 지역사와 미술사를 바탕으로 유물과 작품대여를 통해 연구 전시를 개최하고 있다. 이번 전시는 진주의 대표 작품인 <논개영정>과 진주 출신 박생광을 포함하여 삼국시대부터 근현대까지의 한국 전통회화인 채색화의 흐름을 조명하고자 한다. 채색화는 색이 있는 그림을 말한다. 동북아시아에서는 수묵화의 위상이 컸기에 수묵화와 변별을 위해 색채가 들어간 회화로 구분하며, 채색의 정도에 따라 담
채, 진채 등의 기법적인 방식으로 설명하는 것이 일반적이다. 역사는 1,700년 전인 삼국시대 고분벽화(古墳壁畵)부터 시작되었으며, 고려 불화, 조선시대의 장식화, 초상화, 민화 등 회화 예술을 거쳐 현대까지 오랜 세월을 발전해 왔다. 이 공동기획전을 통해 우리 역사와 함께했던 채색화의 전통과 근대 이후 당대의 시대정신을 담은 채색화 작가를 알아보고, 기억되길 바란다.

Both Jinju National Museum and Jinju City Museum cohold the exhibition, ‘The flow of Korean Polychrome paintings: Jinju, a village with true colors and true light.’ Each institution as either municipal or national museum holds exhibitions by renting relics and artworks based on local and art histories. This xhibition aims to highlight the advancement of the Korean traditional paintings from the period of the Three States to the modern era, including the portrait of Nongae, a representative of Jinju, and the artworks by Sang Kwang PARK from Jinju.
The Polychrome painting means the picture with colors. Since the position of ink-and-wash painting was significant in Northeast Asia, the paintings with colors were established to differentiate from ink-and-wash paintings. Generally, the Polychrome paintings are explained as the techniques like light or deep color depending on the degree of color. Its history was originated from the ancient tomb murals in the period of the Three States, 1700 years ago, and it has been developed through the paintings for Buddha in Goryeo dynasty, decorative paintings, portraits, folk paintings, and so on in Joseon dynasty, up to those in the modern era. Through the exhibition, we can understand and remember the tradition of the Polychrome paintings along with our history as well as artists of Polychrome paintings who contained the spirit of the times since the modern times.
