가나아트는 2025년 첫 기획전으로 《김병기와 상파울루 비엔날레》를 개최한다. 2025년은 2022년 작고한 김병기의 3주기가 되는 해이며, 그가 커미셔너이자 심사위원으로 활동했던 1965년 제8회 상파울루 비엔날레의 개최 60주년이 되는 해이다. 가나아트는 김병기의 일대기와 작품, 그리고 제8회 상파울루 비엔날레라는 사건을 통해 한국현대미술의 거목 김병기의 위상에 대해 재고하고 한국 근현대 미술사의 분산된 사실들을 연결하는 계기로 삼고자 한다.
전시는 ‘김병기의 작품세계’와 ‘제8회 상파울루 비엔날레’ 두 개의 주제로 구성된다. 김병기의 1960년대 작품부터 말년작에 이르기까지 10여 점을 선보이는 동시에 제8회 상파울루 비엔날레를 재조명하며, 참여 작가인 이응노, 김환기, 김종영, 이세득, 권옥연, 정창섭, 김창열, 박서보의 1960년대 회화 및 조각 30여 점을 선보인다. 이번 전시는 단순한 회고를 넘어, 1960년대한국 현대미술이 국제적인 미술의 흐름 속에서 어떤 방식으로 대응하고 변모해 나갔는지를 보여주는 중요한 역사적 기록이 될 것이다.
Gana Art presents its first exhibition of 2025, 《KIM Byungki and Bienal De São Paulo》, honoring the 3rd anniversary of KIM Byungki’s passing and the 60th anniversary of the 8th São Paulo Biennale, where he served as commissioner and jury member. Through KIM’s life, works, and contributions to the 8th Bienal De São Paulo, this exhibition reassesses his legacy as a key figure in Korean modern art and bridges dispersed narratives in its history.
Divided into two themes, “KIM Byungki’s Artistic World” and “The 8th São Paulo Biennale,” the exhibition presents 10 of Kim’s works from the 1960s to his later years, highlighting his artistic evolution. It also revisits the 8th Bienal De São Paulo, featuring 1960s paintings and sculptures by artists LEE Ungno, KIM Whanki, KIM Chongyung, LEE Seduk, KWON Okyon, CHUNG Changsub, KIM Tschang-Yeul, and PARK Seobo. More than a retrospective, this exhibition records how Korean modern art responded to and evolved within the 1960s global art scene.
